Men and vineyards since the year 1948

Cantina Ponte is a wine cooperative Company traditionally bonded to its landscape which through the years had the capacity to develop initiatives of development for the entire wine district until it has become today one of the most important productive realities of the North-East of Italy.

The Cantina is going to establish the wine’s prices and it is going to have the function to control them to benefit all the partners….Furthermore it is going to contribute and to increase the consideration of the entire agricultural territory and to introduce the typical Piave’s wine. Milione Tomaseo, the first Cantina’s President, said, September of the year 1948.

1948

Viticoltori Ponte was created in September 1948 by a small group of winemakers who banded together to face the postwar crisis. The idea was received enthusiastically, so much so that in a short time the number of members rose to 116 and as many as 535 kilos of grapes were turned into wine that year

1955-’64

A few years later, on 16th May 1955, the new home of the Cantina was opened, a grandiose and cutting-edge facility by the standards of the time. Over the years the Cantina Sociale continued to grow to such an extent that by the end of 1964 it had more than 360 members.

1964-today

Today the cooperative counts 1200 producing partners for 2000 hectares spread through  the whole Veneto territory.

Cantina Ponte intends to be a definitive benchmark in all the areas of expertise in which it works as much in production as in the social, environmental and local context.
Therefore, the first business asset it has always been its human capital, a wide and assorted team work which made this Company look like a big family where everyone’s constant diligence is essential to reply to the increasing people’s faith and to be able to keep proposing to thousands of worldwide costumers its own wines’ quality popularizing the Veneto land’s  values.

Cantina Ponte is a wine cooperative Company which represents  one of the most important reality of the Veneto territory.

The care of all the phases of the production chain comes from a wide team work composed by farmers, workers, managers, agricultural agents, enologists, agents and salesmen. All of them work with passion and they do their best to reply to the increasing people’s faith and to divulge the quality of their wines all over the world.

Cantina Ponte was founded in 1948 thanks to a 14-winemaker group’s dedication. It has been able to innovate and develop itself over the years reaching already more than 360 bestowed partners by the end of 1964. Today the cooperative counts 1200 producing partners for 2000 hectares spread through  the whole Veneto territory.

The Cantina Ponte’s objective is having the quality without compromises, meant on all levels of production, from the vineyard to the bottle.

The quality’s research begins with a careful and scrupulous grapes’ selection in the field and proceeds with the most innovative and well-advanced technologies of wine making. A team of  experienced enologists and wine-making experts look after all the phases of the production chain and they are supported by an efficient internal laboratory which allows to supervise the wine through all the phases of its evolution.

The 2000 grapevine hectares are spread through an extended territory which goes from the North of Venice to the slopes of Montello, the characteristic hill of flooded red-colored conglomerate situated in the South of the Piave river.

The heterogeneous lands are made up both of the hard clays and the light “Grave” sands of the Piave river which set the best soil profile.

The climate is particularly favorable which is characterized by the perfect temperature ranges and the right rainfall typical of an area situated among the Adriatic sea, the hills and the Pre-Alps mountains of Conegliano.

The production structure

At the beginning the Cantina was only part of what today is the central complex which was structured as follow: a three arches building with inside wine-producer machinery, bladder presses, tanks for wine storage and bottling machinery; through the years it has been extended due to the continuous business growth. The bottling has been moved to an adjacent but independent branch and it has been bought a batch of external wine-producer machinery and tanks for wine storage. Recently it has been installed a new pressing plant with a new room for the bladder presses.

In the 2011 the roof has been entirely replaced with 7300 mq (78577 SqFt) photovoltaic panels which, with a production of about 516 Kw/h, it covers 45% of the energy requirements of the Company.

The new pressing plant allows a better use of the grapes and contributes to obtain a more  refined finished product. After the wine-making a small selection of wine is finished inside of  French oak barriques, the basis of sparkling wine(Spumanti) are stored on the valuable sediments in thermo conditioning steel tanks while the prevalent wine is conserved in cement tanks.

The wine cellars produce wine-makings of white, red and rosé wines, the wine perfumes are preserved thanks to fermentation with controlled temperatures.

The bottling plant produces approximately 14,000,000 per year which the majority are lively and sparkling wines.
The production capacity of the plant is about 9-10,000 bottles per hour.
